Psalm 91 is often thought of as a psalm of protection. It is full of God’s promises and speaks of the love that He has for us. The beautiful thing about the promises of God is that they are His. He is faithful and true to honor His promises. What comfort we can take in knowing that our faith is not in what we can do, but it is in what He has promised to do. Our role in all this is to dwell in Him. To make Him our shelter and refuge. As we place our trust in Him, we can rest in the knowledge that He is who He says He is and He will do what He says He will do.
I wrote these prayers for my son who is an infantryman in the army and is deployed. The prayers center around the scriptures in Psalm 91. There are two prayers, one for my son to pray over himself and one for me to pray over him. These prayers are prayed daily. I will say that sometimes I pray my prayer more than once a day. Not because I don’t think God hears me, but because it brings me comfort and peace as I am reminded of the promises of God.
I am sharing these prayers because I know like me there are many military families praying for their loved ones. Please make them your own. Trust that God hears your prayers. In Psalm 116:2 it says “Because He bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath.” (NLT) I pray that the Lord will bless you and fill you with His peace and love. I pray that the Lord will remind you that He is bigger than anything that your loved one is facing. Remember that the Lord is sovereign over all things and He has gone before our soldiers and has prepared the way. Rest in His comfort and trust that as you pray, not only is He listening, but He is moving.
May God Bless You and Your Family,

PRAY: Lord, I praise you and I thank you because you alone are my refuge my place of safety. You are my God and I trust you. You are my shelter and my place of rest.

PRAY: Lord, I am not afraid of the terrors of the night, nor of the arrow, and dangers that surround me in the day. I don’t dread the disease or the disasters that strike during midday. Lord, you are my protector. Though a thousand may fall at my side and ten thousand are dying all around me, the evil and destruction will not touch me. The plan of the enemy cannot come near me because you, my Lord are my protector. Thank you, Lord, for guiding and guarding me.
READ: 9 If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, 10 no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home. 11 For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go. 12 They will hold you up with their hands, so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone. 13 You will trample upon lions and cobras; you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet! 14 The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. 15 When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them. 16 I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.”
PRAY: Lord you are my refuge, my shelter, my rock, my foundation. Because I am in You no evil will conquer me, no plan of the enemy will prevail. Lord, I thank you that you have ordered your angels to protect me wherever I go. That they will hold me up with their hands. I thank you, Lord, that you have dispatched them to my side to stand guard and encamp around me. Lord thank you for going before me and making the way. You are my rescuer; my deliverer and I am so grateful that you hear my prayers. Thank you, Lord, for your promise to rescue me in my times of trouble and reward me with a long life. I honor you Lord and praise you for your goodness and grace. I trust you and I stand on your promises. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
