I am reading Mark chapter 5 right now. There is a lot in this chapter and so much to talk about. Jesus is a miracle worker. He is the great healer and all we need to do is just believe. When Jesus speaks in verse 36 he is telling Jarius and the disciples with Him to ignore the people around them and what they are saying. He is saying “Don’t be afraid, just believe.” That stands out to me because this chapter is full of people who live by faith, those who live by sight, and those who live by fear.
When Jesus delivered the demon possessed man the people in the region begged Him to leave. It amazes me that they can see this miraculous deliverance take place and react with fear and not just ask, but plead with Him to leave. Sometimes we get so used to the darkness in our lives and around us that it causes us to fear the light. I feel like that is what is happening here. They knew the man was demon possessed, they had tried to contain him. His possession was normal life to them. A darkness they were used too. But when Jesus delivered him, they were exposed to the power of God, the light of the world and instead of running to Him and laying at His feet, they feared the light and asked Him to leave.
The woman with the issue of blood lived by faith. She knew that all she needed to do was to touch the hem of His garment and she would be healed.
The people who were around Jesus when He was traveling to Jarius’s house lived by sight. Once they heard of the little girl’s death, they did not believe that Jesus could do anything about it. They only believed in the things they had seen and since they had not see someone rise from the dead they had no faith.
The life we live should be like the woman with the issue of blood, a life lead by faith in the unseen. I want my life to be one that I know that no matter what it looks like, Jesus is bigger than anything I see.
