Thoughts on Revelation 1

June 12, 2019

This morning I am reading Revelation chapter 1. I could just copy and paste the whole chapter here, because it truly stirs my soul. I weep as I read the greeting “Grace to you and peace from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before His throne, and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to His God the Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever, Amen. Revelation 1:4-6 (NKJV) Reading that greeting just does something to my heart. Hearing Who God is and reminding us who we are in Him. That in this greeting He is talking to me. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit is sending this greeting to me. ❤️

The very next verses get me too because they describe Jesus the Christ! John is not describing what Jesus will look like in some distant future, that is what He looks like now. So often we think of Jesus the baby, Jesus the preacher, Jesus the servant, Jesus the crucified, Jesus the risen Savior, and He is all of those things, but He is also Jesus the Christ fully God and full of power. And it is that revelation that makes me weep. This great big, powerful Lord, with hair as white as snow, feet like brass, eyes like the flame of fire, and a voice as the sound of many waters. This all powerful Lord, who created the world just by speaking is greeting me with grace and peace. He is not just thinking of me, but He is planning for me. He is mindful of all of us. He loves us so much that He stills His hand, giving us time to come to His saving grace. The book of Revelation to me is a great love story. When I think of WHO God is and that He has ALL Power, I am reminded of just how small I am, yet He loves me and desires me to know Him still.
