Remember What Was Done IN You

June 11, 2019

“Then He began to rebuke the cities in which most of His mighty works had been done, because they did not repent: Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.” – Matthew 11:20-21 (NKJV)

We need to remember that what He has done FOR us, IN us, and THROUGH us, He did not have to do. He did it to point us to Him. He did it to bring about repentant hearts. And to repent, we must first see our sin as He does. In Matthew, Jesus says If what was done IN you was done in Tyre or Sidon they would have repented. I wondered about this comparison of cities. Tyre and Sidon were wicked places, full of luxury and pride, but they didn’t hide it. Seeing the mighty works of Jesus would put them face-to-face with the depth of their sinfulness because they would see His glory compared to what they are giving glory too. The people in Chorazin and Bethsaida did not repent even after experiencing His mighty works. Tyre would see His mighty works through their own brokenness, but Chorazin was seeing His mighty works through their pride. It hardened their hearts instead of softened them.

We must always posture our hearts to see all the Mighty Works that Jesus is doing in our lives every day. The beauty of creation, the fact that He gives us new mercies every day, and the very fact that we are breathing right now. Not to mention the times where He moves in our lives as only He can opening doors, jobs, promotions, relationships, healings, deliverance, and restoration. Most of those are external, but we can also reflect on what He has done IN us. How He has changed our hearts, renewed our hope, and restored our faith.
