“For you do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it; You do not delight in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and contrite heart. These O’God You will not despise.” Psalm 51:16-17 NKJV
He wants our hearts and sometimes we give Him our words or try to show Him by our actions, but what He seeks is our hearts. Saying sorry and acting like we are sorry does no good if our hearts aren’t given over to it. I think sometimes when we do something wrong we try to “show” God how sorry we are. We try to make up for it. That is good as long as our hearts are what was changed. As long as our hearts are offered up before Him. As long as in brokenness we turn to Him and away from our sin. We have to stop weighing our sin against who or how many people we are hurting. We need to stop thinking about big sin and little sin and understand that all sin is terrible. It is so terrible that Jesus went to the cross and died for our sins so that we can be reconciled to the Father. When we sin, it should break our hearts; it should cause our spirits to grieve; we should realize that the one that we are hurting is the very one who gave His life so that we could be free from it. As David said, all sin is against God. Understanding that should break our hearts every time we sin and cause true repentance.
