Because He Has Known My Name

“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation.” – Psalm 91:14-16

I love all of this Psalm. It is such a beautiful reminder of the great love God has for all of us. As I read this passage, this line “because he has known My name” stood out to me. The Psalm is about being so close to God, being covered by the shadow of His wings, being hidden in Him, being so intimately connected that it is hard to see where we end and He begins. We are living, and moving, and having our being in Him (Acts 17:28) and might I add, we are breathing in Him. When you know someone and live in harmony with them like that, you are joined. You know them, their characteristics, their voice, and their name.

To me, that is the deeper thing this scripture is talking about. A lot of people know His name, but not everyone KNOWS HIS Name. When you really know His name, you know that His name is Elohim, the All-powerful one and He never changes. He is Adonai, our great Lord, our total authority. He is El Roi, the God who sees me, there is not a minute that goes by that He is not mindful of me. He is El-Shaddai, the All-Sufficient One, He is the God who provides, He is the God of my mountains and the God of our valleys. He is Immanuel, God with us, He walks with me daily, He knows my heart. He is Jehovah, the Great I AM, the One Who Is, Who Was, and Who is to Come, He is the Self-Existent One. He is Jehova-Rapha, the God who heals, He makes me whole and restores me. He is Jehova-Rohi, the Lord my Shepherd, He leads me beside quiet waters and He restores my soul. He is Jehovah-Tsidkenu, the Lord our Righteousness, when He looks at me He sees me covered in the righteousness of Jesus. He is Yahweh, the Alpha, and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. He is my hoe, my light, my burden lifter. He is my strong tower and my refuge. This is what I get when I read the line “because He has known My name.” We know His name because He is faithful to show us who He is time and time again and when we can KNOW Him instead of know of Him, then we will truly be walking out Psalm 91. This is my prayer. I want to know the fullness of Who He is. I want to know Him intimately by every name because I know that He is faithful and true.
