This odd looking, beat up seemingly old tool is a weapon. It is filled with life saving water. Water that cools and refreshes when the heat of life becomes unbearable. Water that rescues people, homes and communities. Water that replenishes when what we are carrying in our tank has been depleted. You look and see a fire hydrant. Just like you look in the mirror and just see you. I look at it and see a weapon, an answer, a provider, a supplier, joy, relief, support, power. Just picture it. No matter what the situation I can use this fire hydrant. Like this fire hydrant there is power in the inside you. So don’t look in the mirror and just see you. See the you I have put inside. See the you that is full of power and gifts; joy and grace.
Notice how we take fire hydrants for granted. We don’t really notice them but when we do we often see the outside the torn chains, the chipped paint, the rust and the dirt. Sometimes they look out of place. Like they belong somewhere else. Like the fire hydrant you are out of place in this world; you belong somewhere else; you belong to my kingdom.
But I have placed you where I want you. When people see you, they will see rust, but I see growth. They will see broken chains, but I see victories, they will see dirt, but I see overcoming, they will see chipped paint, but I will see the blood of my son. They will see you, but I will see what’s inside of you. The purpose, the plans and the gifts ready to come bursting forth in power cleansed in my water. You may be dusty, you may be beat up and seemingly out of place. But I have made you a tool for someone’s deliverance, someone’s hopelessness, someone’s restoration, someone’s joy. And you are exactly in the place I need you to be.
