I have been studying Exodus in my morning devotional time. After reading in Exodus 19 about how God instructed the Israelites to consecrate and prepare themselves because He was going to come down on Mount Sinai.This is when they were going to receive the ten commandments.
To come to God in worship, they needed to prepare themselves. The scripture tells us that the presence of God descends at the mountains’s peak and the whole mountain trembles violently as thunder, lightening and smoke erupt. Creation was responding to God’s glory.
Then my devotional asked these two questions:
Do I prepare to approach a Holy God? Do I tremble in His Holy presence?
Wow! Let me just reflect on that a moment. How do I prepare my heart before approaching God? How do I respond to His presence, is it with the same devotion that creation did in Exodus or am I just casual about it all?
