Be the Church

Are you hurting and broken within,
Overwhelmed by the weight of the sin,
Jesus is calling.
Have you come to the end of yourself,
do you thirst for a drink from the well,
Jesus is calling.

I heard just a few bars of this song “O Come to the Altar” by Elevation Worship and it stirred my spirit. There are so many people hurting in this world both saved and unsaved. Our culture is so inundated with darkness and sin that it is easy to get lost in it. It looks like fun until you realize that it is weighing on you. As people struggle to carry that weight, they are looking for help, support someone who has the answer. The answer is Jesus Christ. The church has that answer, but if we don’t take time to be like Jesus and enter into their pain then how will they know. How will they feel His love, if we don’t love Him? How will they know the sacrifice, if we are not willing to sacrifice ourselves?
I am tired of hearing from Christians who are sitting, waiting for the rapture. Do I want to be raptured, yes I do. However, I will not be sitting around waiting for it. I am going to complete my assignment. Go out into all the world. Folks if you are a Christian that has been saved by the grace of God through His son Jesus Christ, then you have the same assignment. It doesn’t mean that you have to travel to a far away land; look around you there are plenty of hurting, lost and broken people around you that need the love of Christ.
Inviting them to church is great! But they should not have to wait until Sunday! If Christ is in you then you are the church. Act like it! People need you now. They need to see your life as a living testimony to the greatness of God. Live what you believe.
For me, I am not satisfied by being a distant model of what life with Christ is like, I pray for the Lord to put me in places so that face to face I can show them; witness to them and pour out on them the love that Christ poured out on me.
