Distorted Beauty

Isaiah 53:1-3

This passage really struck me. “He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to Him.”

The world has taken the beautiful things and distorted them so much that we miss their true meaning. We walk around with a warped sense of beauty when we see through our natural eyes; when we are led by our flesh. The world has taken love and the beautiful things of God and made them distorted with sin. Love has become about sex. Young people (and older people as well) have gotten their identities wrapped up in it. They begin to see themselves in the context of sex instead of the beauty of who God created them to be.

The world has taken the sanctity of new life and made it about convenience and personal desires. It has taken the beauty of life and made it a burden easily erased. People cease to see the miracle of life inside the womb as they do life outside the womb.

The world has taken differences and turned them into hate. Instead of respecting others points of view it has become about bullying people to believe the same way. People respond with hate and name calling. Where there should be unity, there is division because its more important for me to be right and you to be wrong then loving your neighbor and understanding that we think differently. It has become about oppressing the Word of God because it doesn’t line up with what you believe instead of lining up what you believe with the Word of God.

Perhaps the biggest of all is making lies seem like the truth. Propagating lies to promote self interests. So when true beauty comes we miss it. The world has so covered us with ugly that we are just looking for someone or something uglier than us. So we miss it and in missing it, we miss Him. We miss Him because we believe that we are the most important; our will; our way; our opinion; our right; our ego; our pride; our – our- our. So we miss it. We have bought the biggest lie that it is all about us. In being deceived by that lie, we become attracted to the wrong things because we no longer know what is beautiful. Our perception is colored, we see through the eyes of the world.

We must return to the true understanding that beauty is only found in our creator. Beauty is found in seeking His face. Beauty is found in reading His Word. Beauty is found when we realize that this world is not all about us, it is all about Him.
